History of Takaoka Tetsubin

Takaoka Tetsubin is one of the main products of Takaoka copper ware & Ironware. In 1609 , 7 skilled workers of copper ware are and ironware of Kawachi ,Osaka invited . It is origin and start of casting in Takaoka .
In Takaoka, iron casting began with the production of daily necessities such as pots, pots and other agricultural equipment such as hoe , and also in the middle of the Edo period the castle casting (copper alloy) became flourishing. Especially Buddhist equipment became popular also in general households. Takaoka Copper ware was developed by creating a casting mainly composed of engravings for castings such as flower vases and Buddhist priests. In Meiji, name of the metal processing technology of Takaoka Copper ware was spread to the world through the Paris World Exposition. After that, from Meiji era to Taisho era, the production of fire bowls, jar pots, tea ceremony, figurines etc. became prosperous, the artistic value of Takaoka copperware came to be known all over the country.

Its Features
As for Takaoka Tetsubin, we have processed the engraving and coloring etc. after casting by various techniques. In Japan it is said that wax casting method is kept from Asuka and Nara period (7th – 8th centuries). For the manufacture of Takaoka Tetsubin, this casting method is used, and complicated and precise casting is carried out, and it expresses flowing and meekly. It is a high-class Tetsubin that has received high appreciation as an art work and respected. Selected masterpieces started from mold-typing, and they created top-notch craftsmen for each process such as casting, finishing, coloring, and inlaying. It is a work that you enjoy the feeling of heaviness of Tetsubin, the peace of expression that each pattern expresses. In 1975 (1975) , it was designated as a “traditional craft work” of Japanese government.
